What a tumultuous year it has been for all of us. The pandemic has ravaged the world, damaged economies and many of us have lost loved ones.
The travel industry has suffered tremendously in the past two years and many companies are no longer in business. In Southern Africa, nearly all the airlines have been forced to close.
Industry-wide, we have noticed that refunds are becoming few and far between. Airlines are issuing vouchers and extending validation of tickets with no specific pattern. We believe that these tickets will soon have expiry dates attached to them.
Accommodation suppliers are also changing their cancellation policies and not refunding, rather choosing to issue vouchers to be redeemed at a later stage. For example, cancelled December accommodation for 2021 may have to be redeemed before September 2022 to prevent expiry of the voucher. It is always advisable to take out insurance through GTA to prevent the above from happening.
GTA also had its fair share of change and havoc to deal with. We know how difficult it is to run a business post-COVID in South Africa and worldwide, as supply chains and logistics cause delays in production and transport. We want to thank our suppliers for helping us out when we were up against the wall! You were heroes!
During this period, we have not been idle. We have created a new, more user-friendly website with new specials being loaded as the world hopefully opens. We have aligned ourselves with other major travel companies to strengthen our reach to provide better pricing and options for our members. We have designed a new distribution system for our product that will put money back into our members pockets. We will share more about NBO in the new year.
Kudos to Nooline (our Reservations Manager) and her Team for not diminishing service levels, bringing everyone back home safely and keeping us informed of the changes in travel as they happen. The dedicated efforts of our Reservations Department enabled us to maintain our promise of “More For Less” to our members.
Recent surveys undertaken indicate that most people are in dire need of a holiday and tired of lockdown. We believe travel will explode again and become even more important in people’s lives. We can honestly say that we are a better and stronger company today as a result and we are ready for the next wave of travel.
